28 February
THORN AND THRONE
The unique character of this date makes everyday it takes important, necessary, problematic and undesiring. One would ask, how can something be necessary and problematic or important and undesiring at the same time? This means that there is indeed something about 28 February.
28 February represents very fittingly, a day when the joy arousing from the untamable muscular expression of amazement and fulfilment on the face of an employee is beheld by all who come in contact with him. On this day, the employee's joy is humanly inexpressible. He is happy that he doesn’t have to work for thirty days to get paid. He is happy because he had got himself an extension of three more days before the bank loan runs overdue.
Consequently, the employer does not share in this intense feeling of happiness. He is dissatisfied by the emergence of February. He incessantly weeps over his thirty days budget which would have to run a three days loss as a result. It would seem like February is not a good month for business.
On the contrary, February is actually an indispensable tool for profit making. All you need to do is to give your business a genuine caption, intriguing and passionately seductive. This is why February is very effective in the various acts of Religious Extortion. It is today an empirical truth that many religious leaders have an undying yearning for the arrival of February. The pastor does not have to wait for thirty days before the tithe offering is made. He is expectantly overjoyed when he gets a wish saying: happy new month, it’s February!! At this point, the rate at which he would emphasize the importance of tithing will increase. 'You cannot make heaven if you don’t make a tithe offering' he would often tell his congregation. Thus, February offers him the enabling atmosphere to rub the ignorant men and women of their rights to the knowledge of authentic Christian truths.
Similarly, February would often receive cold reception from a number of lax lecturers and teachers who would never complete the lectures allotted for each month within the period of thirty days. Twenty-eight days would therefore become an unthinkable nightmare. On the other hand, February assumes the position of a desired phenomenon on the parts of the students. The student at the close of each month is overwhelmed by the quick run of the monthly lectures. February comes to make this feeling more intense.
At one point or the other, there is always a mixed feeling about February.
